Sterling Silver Blue Pear Cut Gemstone, Lab-Grown Diamond & Biron Emerald Ring

Design Brief

To create additional settings that would seamlessly integrate with a cherished family heirloom ring featuring a pear-cut blue gemstone. The new design was to incorporate lab-grown diamonds and Biron emeralds, with the intention of fabricating the additional settings in Sterling Silver to match the existing ring, which was stamped as Sterling Silver.

During the manufacturing process, material testing revealed that the original heirloom ring was not Sterling Silver as stamped. XRF analysis confirmed the ring was composed of approximately 87.7% nickel, making it unsuitable for soldering or incorporating new Sterling Silver settings due to the significant difference in metal composition and the potential durability and manufacturing issues this would create.

To preserve the sentimental value of the original gemstone while achieving the desired design, the Nowlans design team proposed an alternative solution. The original ring was faithfully recreated in solid Sterling Silver, incorporating the requested design enhancements. The recreated ring features the client's original pear-cut blue gemstone, complemented by newly set brilliant-cut lab-grown diamonds and Biron emeralds, resulting in a durable, wearable piece that honours the original heirloom while allowing the design vision to be successfully realised.
